Analysing three
websites
Evaluate three music artists' websites
for design and content:
Criteria for evaluating sites include the
following:
Charlie Puth’s Website analysis:
Design – The design is fairly plain and simplistic, however, this may
appeal to Charlie Puth’s target audience. The design is fairly easy to gain
information on due to it being simple and representable, rather than including
loads of information on one page since this will make the page seem
uninteresting and unappealing.
Content – The content within the Charlie Puth website shows the artist’s
songs as well as his tour dates. At the top of the website, there are separate
sections to click on including music+video, tour, photos, news, merchandise, bio
followed by social media links, Spotify, iTunes, etc.
Visual layout – The visual layout is fairly simplistic, containing fairly
simple, plain colours such as black and white being the most common colours
within this website page, although there are other colours such as red, green
and a picture of Charlie Puth’s face presented once clicked on the website.
Mood and tone – The mood and tone is fairly simple, once again due to the plain black
and white colours often used throughout the website. However, the tone and mood
makes the website seem fairly stylish due to the simplicity of the design and
colour scheme.
Colour scheme – The majority of the website is in black and white, however, the
Spotify logo is green along with Charlie Puth’s face being a normal colour.
Structure and order – The top of the website shows sections for
music+video, tour, photos, news, merchandise and bio, followed by a large coloured
picture of Charlie Puth below saying ‘voicenotes 1 year anniversary – listen
now’. Below this is a bold heading titled ‘Tour Dates’ in black font behind a
white background. This is effective since both colours are engaging contrasts
together. Below this is another picture of Charlie Puth, however, is a lot
smaller than the picture above, as well as his ‘Voicenotes’ album of songs listed
on Spotify adjacent to the album cover/picture of Charlie Puth. And below this,
it says ‘let’s keep in touch!’ followed by a search bar where an email can be
sent, thus showing that Charlie Puth is inclusive and supports his
followers/fans throughout his musical career. Then, below this are 10 pictures
of Charlie Puth posing in black and white, however, all the pictures are the
same, perhaps suggesting that he is a minimal guy who may be fairly
stylistic and unique.
Ability to find and understand information –There are links information informing the
reader of anything they may be unsure about. For example, at the top of the
website, there are many sections in which the reader can find out various
pieces of information such as photos, music, merchandise, tour dates, etc.
Font(s) – All of the fonts are similar/almost the same throughout the whole
website. This may be in order to engage the reader, since, by using similar,
easy to read fonts and colours, this doesn’t confuse the reader and informs
them clearly and easily when viewing the website and its information.
Consistency The consistency between the colour scheme, font, pictures are fairly
similar throughout. This may indicate that Charlie Puth may like the black and
white theme and believe it is fairly stylistic and engaging due to the distinct
contrast between the colours.
Nico and Vinz Website analysis:
Design –The design of this website is fairly plain, portraying only ‘Nico
and Vinz’ in the top left corner in white. Once the website is opened, a video
is portrayed, taking up the whole website page. This video may be of their
latest song in which they’ve produced, thus presenting it immediately to their
audience when accessing their website. In the top right corner, there is a tab
you can open which comes up with six ways in which the audience can access more
features about the artists. However, the music video is still playing in the
background and is visible, therefore may be a distraction to some people when
reading the information.
Content – The content is fairly plain and uses mainly white and black
colours, juxtaposing to Charlie Puth’s minimal colour scheme.
Visual layout – Although the visual layout is fairly minimal, the design is
still quite stylistic and engaging due to being presented with a video with
vibrant, engaging camera shots and colours right away.
Mood and tone – The mood and tone is fairly relaxed and stylish due to the
vibrant, warm colours used such as orange, blue, pink, etc.
Colour scheme – Colours include white as the majority, black, grey, pink,
orange, blue, red, yellow.
Structure and order – There is minimal structure for this website. The
artist’s names are presented at the top of the website in the left corner in
engaging, clear bold white text. In the centre is a video of their latest music
video and in the top right corner is a tab which can be opened, presenting a
list in the centre of the page including: Listen, Tour, Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, Youtube below one another in clear, engaging text, font and colour,
very similar to the artists in the top left corner.
Ability to find and understand information – Some may find it difficult to find the
information due to the tab being fairly small, however, once the page is found,
lots of information can be accessed by clicking on the presented links.
Font(s) – Clear, bold, fairly large to attract and engage the audience/reader.
Consistency – Most of the website contains many different colours, however, the
font and colour of the writing/text is the same.
Khalid Website analysis:
Design – The design is very well structured and engaging to the
audience/reader due to being presented with Khalid’s latest music video,
similarly to Nico and Vinz’s website page. At the top left corner, Khalid’s
name is presented similarly to an acrostic. This may suggest that Khalid is
unique and has quite an interesting style about him. Below the music video, it
says ‘Talk’ in large letters, and ‘watch now’ in a smaller font below. This
informs the audience that a new piece of music has been produced, thus allowing
them to access it easily by clicking the ‘watch now’ bar. Below this is a
section portraying his two albums in which he has created throughout his
musical career. Both albums are in close proximity to one another and the
background colour is fairly beige. This colour may have been used in order to
contrast from the album colours. Due to the album’s covers being fairly bright
and engaging, by using a more boring, dull colour behind the albums, this puts
more emphasis on them, rather than the what is happening in the background. Below
this is another section in bold, fairly spaced letters saying ‘Follow’ as well
as social media links below this, followed by an option to email, similar to
Nico and Vinz’s website. Below this show the tour dates, with an engaging
transition when scrolling down the website, this enticing the audience further.
Below this is another section presenting a short film which has been produced,
perhaps suggesting that Khalid and his producers are fairly hardworking and are
passionate about what they do and can create more than just music. Then below
this are pictures of hoodies, t-shirts, etc. of Khalid merchandise. The most
colourful piece of clothing is placed within the centre/middle of the section in
order to grab the audience’s attention, rather than presenting a plain t-shirt
in the centre since this may not attract or engage the audience/reader. Lastly,
below this, social media links are presented once again along with a ‘follow’
in large white font.
Content – The content within this website contains merchandise, songs,
links to further information, tour dates, short films, albums, etc. Rather than
having to click on further tabs, the audience is able to access it all just by
simply scrolling down the website.
Visual layout – The colour scheme is fairly similar throughout, sticking with a
beige and blue vibe. By sticking to a minimal amount of colours, this won’t
make the website confusing or too much to process when visiting the website.
Mood and tone – Fairly plain colours, besides the album covers and music video.
However, sticks to a fairly stylistic, minimalist tone throughout.
Colour scheme – Mainly beige and blue, although the music video contains many
other colours including blue, red, pink, etc.
Structure and order – In order it goes: Latest music video produced,
Khalid’s albums in which he has created throughout his music career, an option
to follow Khalid on social media platforms and listen to his music on music
platforms such as Spotify and Youtube, a list of Khalid’s tour dates, tickets,
tour locations, etc. a short film created for Khalid’s new album, perhaps,
followed by merchandise, then another option to follow Khalid on social media
platforms and listen to his music.
Ability to find and understand information – Links to social media and the option to
email.
Font(s) – The majority are white and bold, clear and large to engage the
reader/audience.
Consistency – The colours remain fairly similar throughout the website.
